Tian Changhai, a master and researcher of Railway Science & Technology Research & Development Center of China Academy of Railway Sciences Co,. Ltd., is mainly engaged in drafting of regulation on railway transport capacity, train operation simulation and comprehensive technology of railway transport. He has systematically established the theoretical system of headway of high speed railway trains, presided over the compilation of the verification methods for the High speed Railway Train Headway, and put forward the measures and approaches to reduce the headway of China's high speed railway trains. He has participated in the development of the Technical Management Regulations for Railway of CHINA RAILWAY, solved a series of technical management issues such as the high speed railway successive route, conditions for train operation in reverse direction, dispatching orders as running tokens, allowance for passing of express trains in yellow lights, give explanations on many major technical issues presented in the Technical Management Regulations for Railway. He has also systematically studied the matching relation of speed, density and weight of railway trains and published the monograph of Speed, Density and Weight of Trains on Speed-up Lines; In the aspect of heavy-haul transport of Datong-Qinhuangdao Railway, he has successively finished the research on capacity expansion schemes for the traffic volume of 200 million tons and 400 million tons, providing a technical support for continuous improvement of transport capacity of Datong-Qinhuangdao Railway for many years. He has led or participated in more than 50 scientific research projects at the national, provincial, ministerial and bureau levels. He has won 1 national science and technology award, 2 special prizes and 2 first-class prizes of provincial and ministerial science and technology award, 2 first-class prizes and 1 second-class prize of bureau-level science and technology award, and published 41 academic papers.
